Kwanzaa. Hanukkah. Christmas. Ōmisoka. Bodhi Day. Whatever holiday you celebrate in December it’s time to think about how you’ll engage with your prospective and confirmed legacy pledgers this year.
The last eight months have been difficult for everyone and sadly, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight….just yet. Many have even decided to put up their holiday decorations earlier than usual … cuz we all need some cheering up, am I right?!
As a wave of new lockdowns are being implemented in many countries around the globe, some are facing the possibility of this holiday season to be greatly toned down. Considering older donors were the most impacted during the first wave, this second wave will undoubtedly make them feel uneasy and scared. In addition, they may not get to see family members due to these restrictions. It sucks, there’s no other way to put it!
So what can we do to engage with legacy pledgers and prospective donors so we can uplift their spirit? How can we bring them joy during this holiday season? Here are a few ideas:
- Holiday thank-a-thon
- Handwritten holiday card
- Send holiday-themed gift (i.e. staff holiday cookie recipe book)
- Virtual holiday cocktail
- Personalized recorded holiday greeting video montage
- Virtual game night
- Advent calendar where every day tells the story of the impact the organization has
- Create an online or virtual space for donors to share their wish for 2021
Do you have any ideas to add to this list? Share them with me and I’ll update the post to include it (crediting you, of course!).
There are so many ways to inspire and engage with prospective and confirmed legacy pledgers this holiday season. The key is keeping it authentic, fun and culturally sensitive. Take your time, think it through, plan it properly and you’ll see how happy your donors will feel. Let’s bring light and love to them all!
